3 Tips to Shooting Better Video NOW from KODAK

How to SHOOT VIDEO that DOESN'T SUCKTHINK IN SHOTS: Viewers get bored fast. Keep your shots short—just long enough to show what interests you, and no more. The resulting 10 second shots make your video easier to watch.
TREAT YOUR VIDEO CAMERA
LIKE A STILL CAMERA:
Too much camera motion keeps the audience from seeing what's important—the people. Point your camera like a still camera, line up the shot, then hit "record". Stop—then move to the next shot.
ZOOM WITH YOUR FEET: Zoom lenses make video shakier. Instead of zooming, walk closer to your subjects. Your video will look and sound better—instantly.

Catching Up with the Olympus Visionaries

Jay Dickman is set to depart for Italy’s Aeolian Islands next month for two FirstLight workshops he’s hosting in September and October. In 2012, Jay’s scheduled for National Geographic workshops in Tucson, AZ, as well as a National Geographic Expedition trip to South Georgia, Falklands and Antarctica and a 38-day National Geographic expedition sailing the west coast of Africa. Additionally, Jay’s hosting three FirstLight workshops in 2012; two Winter Light on the Chesapeake in January and a “cowboy photography” workshop in Dubois, Wyoming.

Jay Kinghorn will be traveling to Kansas City, MO in September to present his Agile Photographer workshop with ASMP Kansas City chapter. Jay, who received an early unit of the new Olympus PEN E-P3, did two recent blog posts that offered his thoughts on the new camera, along with images and video. The first, PEN E-P3: A Whole New PEN, includes a short biographical video of a professional climber. The second, Shooting in Low Light with PEN E-P3, reviews the camera’s low light performance in two challenging situations: a home Pilates studio illuminated by recessed ceiling light and a pool hall using only the available light.

David Wells is being featured in the current issue of Photo District News as one of “The Best Workshop Instructors” where he was praised by former students for his communication skills, individual attention, tirelessness and patience, and for providing a wealth of practical advice. David, who traveled to Italy this summer, posted a podcast entitled ITALIAN, TIME, which chronicles his journey. From the food, to the culture, to the landscape, the podcast is entirely shot with the Olympus XZ-1 and captures the pace of the trip itself, which was a mix of frenetic periods interspersed with calm days.
