Combines Photography, Personal Diary and Original Musical Scores to Present the
World and Environment
NEW
YORK, NY – Oct. 19, 2011 –Colin Finlay, one of the
world’s foremost documentary and environmental photographers, will
provide a rare and insightful look at the world around us in a special
presentation titled, Environment,
during the PhotoPlus International Conference + Expo on Thursday evening, Oct.
26 from 6:15 -- 7:45 p.m. (1A Hall / Room 1A14). Presented by Western Digital, Environment is an emotional and
eye-opening experience that combines three primary mediums of communication --
photography, music, and the written word.
Finlay's images will guide us on a personal journey of his experiences
from every corner of the world, and will be accompanied by passages from his
personal diary throughout his travels, and original musical scores written and
produced by Finlay himself. Attendance is free to all registered
PhotoPlus Expo attendees, but seating is limited.
As one of the world's
leading documentary and environmental photographers and a six-time winner of
the prestigious Picture of the year (POYi) award, Finlay continues to explore
the human condition and the environment with compassion, empathy, and dignity.
During his presentation, Finlay will share his experiences in some of the most
remote locations in the world and discuss how he manages to salvage his sanity
by implementing systems that protect the very reason he is there. The moments
he captures with his camera are truly once-in-a-lifetime opportunities. At the Arctic Circle, one shot is sometimes all you get so
protecting and storing his images is essential to his success.
"Colin Finlay uses his
camera to tell the stories of those who don't have the ability to tell it
themselves, and does it with a level of fairness, accuracy, and honesty that is
captivating and emotional," explains Jeff McQuilkin, Director - PDN PhotoPlus International Conference &
Expo.
David Friend, former Director of Photography at LIFE magazine and current Editor of
Creative Development at Vanity Fair
magazine, is very familiar with Finlay's work and will introduce Colin's
presentation and moderate a Q&A session following the presentation.
"Colin has a special way of seeing the world, which is why Vanity Fair asked him to photograph a
story we were doing on mountaintop coal scraping in West Virginia," explains David
Friend. "His portraits of Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. were equally
outstanding and it is an honor for me to introduce Colin and his work here at
PhotoPlus Expo."
