Vloggers rejoice! Tech enbabled sunglasses that look like sunglasses.
The first tech glasses to put fashion first, utilizing a built-in camera to instantly capture and stream moments to Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and more!

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – At the 2018 International Consumer Electronics Show, ACTON, the leading designer and manufacturer of advanced and innovative electric skateboards, skates and outdoor connected device company, unveiled ACE Eyewear. With a built in, hands-free camera, the glasses prioritize style, so users can look fashionable while taking photos and videos that they can instantly stream to their social media pages.

“Tech-enabled sunglasses have so much potential, but haven’t fully taken off yet because they haven’t been designed with style in mind to look like glasses that people actually want to wear,” said Peter Treadway, ACTON’s co-founder and CTO. “Competitors have shown us that it’s not enough to have glasses that can just quickly take a picture or video. We created ACE knowing they had to look cool, in addition to providing users with a high-quality camera with great resolution, long battery life and instant streaming capabilities.”

Intel Shows off Autonomy at CES 2018 and Mini Drones

Very interesting developments from Intel in the field of autonomy, but for most of our readers here you will be interested in the part beginning at about the 1:27:00: the Intel Shooting Star Mini Drone.
Imagine the responsibilities of controlling up to 100 (or maybe more someday) mini drones for a shoot, be it for creatively lit backgrounds or add a camera and have 1000 different flying perspectives of a scene. Maybe have each one tracking a sports player in an arena, or in a security aspect searching for injured or suspects after a disaster. Heck the possibilities are endless and we here at P3 News are excited!

Seagate and LaCie Cater to Image Makers on the go at CES2018

“Our world is becoming more data-centric, connected and mobile. This means creating, transferring, storing and accessing data quickly and reliably is critical to unlocking the potential of everything – from data created in the field, to data powering self-driving cars, AI personal assistants or virtual and mixed reality experiences,” said Tim Bucher, senior vice president of Seagate consumer solutions. “At Seagate, we’re constantly pursuing innovative ways to address our customer needs so they can gain a competitive edge in whichever field they play.”
Some exciting news from LaCie and Seagate today at CES 2018 for storage options. Possible the most exciting one for photographers and videographers alike is the LaCie® DJI Copilot, its a multi platform compatible mass storage device able to copy from cameras, SD cards and can even connect to phones and tablets and even help re-charge mobile devises. this all in one device is not just a throwback to portable download devices of yesteryear when memory cards were expensive but HDD were cheep.
Its designed for speed, mobility, ruggedness and portability. It even has a screen to let you know status. its Drop, splash and dust resistant along with a cellphone charger and no need for a computer. If you consume huge sums of memory be it from a drone or camera shooting video or maybe the latest 45mp dslr or a digital medium-format you should highly consider this drive to add to your setup.

23MP Camera with cellphone built in from Sony

Ok its really a cellphone with a 23mp camera but Sony was clearly looking to aim at people wanting to take pictures with their cellphone as opposed to people who want a cellphone that can take photos. They also have a "lighter" version with 16mp. These cameras, i mean cellphones mean business for photography. Now the true test will be how all those pixels do crammed into such a tiny space. We all know smaller spaces mean more heat and more heat means more noise. Initial samples are promising but all have good lighting.

Based on the Android operating system, the RICOH THETA V provides a user-friendly way for third-parties to not only create apps and software that extend and enhance the capabilities of 360-degree imaging but also new features and functionality for the camera itself. As part of the program, Ricoh is making available the RICOH THETA V’s application program interface (API) and software development kit (SDK) and will provide tools and guidance to support plug-in development. Western Digital / Sandisk shows off 1tb flash drives and more at CES

Exciting news from Western Digital and Sandisk including wireless portable SSD's, ultra rugged SSD's and a 1TB, yes one terabits USB Flash drive! The two companies are really showing their commitment to storage on the go at CES 2018 and image makers will be happy to know that they are not being left out.

Modern cameras producing 100mb images and 4k video consuming gigs of memory in minutes mean we must travel with external storage solutions and that old DVD or Blue ray of the 200's just wont cut it anymore for file transfer/sharing. Many people are giving clients their photos and videos on Flash Drives and even portable HDD but until now the limited size and ruggedness have put many in binds.

Raw first look with the Nikon D7500 Kit

We just got the new Nikon D7500 Kit with 18-140mm VR lens in and un-boxed it to see what we have. Raw first look and initial impressions.
After charging the batttery we finally got to play with it a little and set it up.  Its the "upgrade/replacement" to the D7200/7100/7000 but IMHO falls a little short compared to previous bodies. We will be giving it a real world run through its paces here very soon and see where it fits for an active photographer.
The 18-140mm lens is nice and a good travel/universal kit lens for most people. The VR helps with low light and seams to work well for video stabilization too. Down side is the kit does not include a hood for it.

First thoughts
  • It has reasonably accurate exposure and auto white balance
  • Amazingly powerful built in flash with good coverage of the kit lens
  • Lens VR is good, allows us to easly hand hold down to about 1/15s
  • ISO is very usable to at-least 6400
  • AF is good but not the fastest with the kit lens, (will see if its the lens or body soon)
  • Build is solid but plastic-ey
  • Really wish it had a battery grip option from Nikon (see video for details)
  • Some may wish it had Duel Card slots.
